Léon Augustin Lhermitte was a French naturalist painter and etcher known for his rural scenes portraying peasants at work. Lhermitte’s innovative use of pastels won him the admiration of his contemporaries.
Léon Lhermitte created The Haymakers in 1887. It is now part of the collection at Van Gogh Museum in Netherlands.
